With the objective of sharing Ayvalik’s rich historical and cultural heritage with future generations, the support of Ayvalik Municipality and the generous contributions of Ayvalik’s friends, the project to restore this beautiful Ayazma structure became a reality.

This miraculous center of healing served both residents of the Ayvalık region as well as many visitors coming from geographies afar.

It was abandoned in the beginning of this century, and later, was converted to a small olive oil factory.

Towards the end of seventies, the factory ceased operations and the building was abandoned in a derelict fashion. In 2015 the roof was close to collapse and the building was almost completely lost.

This outstanding, unique structure with its exquisite and rare architectural features needed an exceptional restoration team to bring it back to its original condition. Archaeologist Prof. Dr. Mr. Omer Ozyigit and his wife architect Suzan Ozyigit were chosen for the restoration task.

After 15 months of hard work, Ayvalık Panagia Phaneromeni was restored to it's original state as a museum of holy and healing water, to be enjoyed and cherished by future generations.

Panagia Phaneromeni is open to visitors daily from 10.00 to 17.00 except Mondays.
